For 2014, Authentic Movement will be offered as a quarterly workshop. Please contact Anne directly to be added to the email notification list, or information on the next workshop.
Authentic Movement is an awareness practice.
It is a way to connect deeply with yourself in the present moment, and to be seen compassionately by others.
The Authentic Movement practice is a ritual that involves movers and witnesses. Within the safety of a circle of witnesses, the movers close their eyes and tune in to the movement impulses that arise in their body to express their feelings, needs, or state of being in the moment. By responding to, following and exploring these sensory stimuli, the mover expresses through his/her body what might not be conscious and/or accessible in words.
The role of the witness is to receive the expressions of the mover, to be aware of what responses arise within themselves, to be present with compassion, and to reflect what they saw to the mover. The witnesses offer their reflection without attachment to whether or not they are "right" about what they perceived or interpreted, but rather with the intention of demonstrating connection, deep listening, and the potential for clarity, insight and learning.
Based on the work of Mary Starks Whitehouse, Janet Adler, and others. For more information about Authentic Movement, click here.
No dance or prior Authentic Movement experience necessary; simply bring your willingness to be present and to connect with yourself and others through movement.
